Extreme surfer Garrett McNamara, took on mother nature and won when he successfully surfed a ferocious 90 Ft. wave, earning his spot in the record books.

McNamara made history during the ZON North Canyon Project in Praia do Norte, Nazare, Portugal, where deep water canyons help produce record breaking waves on the coastline from the Atlantic Ocean.

McNamara told Surfer Today: ‘I feel so blessed and honored to have been invited to explore this canyon and its special town. The waves here are such a mystery.’

According to The Guinness World Book of Records, McNamara broke the previous record held by Mike Parsons, who rode a 77ft wave in Cortez Bank in 2001.
