20 year old Brian Tognozzi from Pacifica, California has a plan in place for 2009.. Study hard, work hard, and take few surf trips to Mex. While most kids are on MySpace Brian has better things to do. When he’s not surfing for his sponsors Body Glove, Sol Life Surfboards, Bullys, Atwater Clothing, and Nor Cal surf shop you can find him under the hood fixing up his ride. It took some effort, but once we dragged Brian away from his beloved auto Keith Terriberry put him on the hot seat and interrogated him until he spoke. Here is what he had to say…
NCS: Favorite Wave?
BT: I am known for always surfing shitty lefts, so lets just label that as my favorite type of wave.
NCS: Favorite Surfer?
BT: Toss up between, Mike Losness and Taylor Knox, two totally different style surfers, I just like both their styles.
NCS: What’s your favorite thing about girls?
BT: Probably their adams apple…no just kidding, I’d have to say an ideal girl for me would be pretty face, dark haired with bangs, and maybe a lip piercing to sum it all up.
BT: Being a full time student all my life and still pursuing my goals. I am pretty happy with where I stand in my accomplishments so far, and as long as my family speaks highly of me I feel well accomplished.
NCS: If you didn’t surf then what you be doing?
BT: I would just work on cars. I am currently restoring a 68′ Firebird which I love working on. I’m into re-doing upholstery body work and engine work, but will pass on anything electrical.
NCS: Who is your real life hero?
BT: My family. Though they might be crazy they have done a lot of good.
NCS: To bootie or not to bootie?
BT: No booties, they’re expectable if your surfing with a bunch of rocks in front of you or a big wave, yet other than that the water is only 50 degrees so you should be able to handle it if you live in Nor Cal all your life because up here is known for it’s cold water and foggy weather.
NCS: Describe your magic board?
BT: As of right now I think I’m finally done growing and finally found my perfect dimension board which is: a 5’11 18 1/8 and 2 1/8. The rocker is pretty even throughout it and its single concave to flat (table top) bottom towards the tail-end of the board. The tail is generally squash but I do occasionally order a rounded pin. I ride Sol Life surfboards, which are based out of Gold Coast Australia and are shaped by Scott Crump. I’ve been with Sol Life for years now and am happy to have a well experienced shaper. I give him feedback on all my boards and he is always making improvements, so for boards I am pretty happy because a lot of my boards are magical.
NCS: Where have you traveled to surf?
BT: I haven’t gone many places to travel other then Hawaii a couple times and Mexico. I generally like to just go up and down California. I still have not got a passport which my buddy Keith asks me every time I see him “did you get your passport yet?” and every time its the same answer. Nope. But once I finish school and get a better job I will be flying more.
NCS: Where do you see the future of surfing going?
BT: I always like shooting photos, I guess I’m a slut in that way so I will probably be doing that till I can’t surf any longer. As for contests I have never really been into competing but will maybe try to start the WQS in this next year and see how I like it. Mavericks has always been there and I did check it out this last winter so hopefully I will get noticed for that this next season.
NCS: Facebook or MySpace?
BT: I have a MySpace account but really don’t approve of it. The crazy people are the ones that have both and maybe have a profile on E harmony too. Then you know they’re stalkers.
NCS: Plans of 2009?
BT: So far just remain a full time student, work my three jobs, and drive down to Mexico this summer and make a few trips down south. Not much planned yet.

bt rips! we are stoked to have him on the boards!!!
You’re really cute, and a great surfer! I think you’re awesome Brian!
