Save The Waves Film Festival On Friday night, San Francisco’s surfer and environmentalist communities came together for a very special event at the Victoria
Theatre: the first annual Save The Waves Film Festival, merging film, art, music, surf and environment together into a seamless blend of stoked fun and heartfelt love for the oceans.

Featuring the infamous Plastic Wave (barreled by plastic), the SF premiere of “Lost Prophets” and Captain Paul Watson presenting “The Cove”, as early as 6pm a line snaked around the block past the immigrants, pimps and traffic on Mission Street. Area hipsters in skinny jeans and fixed-gear bikes were greeted by a completely sold- out Victoria Theatre, environmental activists drank plenty of beer and “Save The Waves” shone hard in bright marquee lights high above 16th Street.

Surfrider Foundation – San Francisco Chapter

The San Francisco Chapter’s Beach Clean-Up Program is one of the most successful of its kind. As a recipient of the Surfrider Foundation’s distinguished “Clean Beach Award,” this program has set the standard for other Surfrider chapters around the country, and increasingly, the world.

Our success is due largely to the incredible volunteer participation by chapter members and other environmentally conscience individuals and organizations who make caring for Ocean Beach a priority. Although we have come to expect regular turnouts at our monthly beach clean-ups, VOLUNTEERS are our greatest asset; and we need as much assistance as we can get. Please work with us to make Ocean Beach the best it can be, and attend any of the scheduled beach clean-ups listed below. Surfrider Beach Clean Ups

Thomas Campbell, hipster-savant of west coast surf art, begins touring his new film, “The Present” this March, hitting San Francisco on the weekend of March 27-28. The film is a follow-up to his releases “The Seedling” (1999) and “Sprout” (2004). Campbell’s artistic and philosophical style contrasts the paradigm of low-fi, quick cut surf films that have dominated the surf film-video genre since Taylor Steele’s release of “Momentum” in 1991. The cast features a wide-range of surfers from cross-steppers Kassia Meador and Alex Knost to new school proponents like Chelsea Georgenson Hedges and Ry Craike.
